Sourav Ganguly – A True Leader of the youth
By : Rudrajyoti kar chowdhury
Harbhajan Singh, Virendar Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and M.S Dhoni are the few young Indian cricketers who came into limelight holding the hands of “ The Engineer of Team India” and the most “Colorful character of Indian Cricket” Mr. Sourav Ganguly. There were many other players who came or rather got the chance but were lost due to lack of talent. This young brigade needed someone to show them the right path or the way towards success and “Dadi” was the best man for that.
Not only he showed them the right path but also led them towards the way of playing the game in a fair manner. Sourav Ganguly always did his best to keep the morale of these young guns right and also did boost up their spirit and made a bonding.
Could we ever imagine that two different players of different genres are best buddies; well, Zaheer and Yuvi are so. This is the reason what makes Sourav Ganguly different from others. A stern character, a friend in need and a guide in hard times – these qualities in him helped to form the “Team India”.
When He took up the responsibility as the captain of the team it was just a team of some people who knew how to win in home grounds. He changed the rules of the game played in the sub-continent and made a new team who openly challenged world champions like Australia, and skilled team like South Africa in their own country. Guys this is Sourav Ganguly, someone who does not mind waving his jersey in lords balcony as two youngsters won the Natwest For the country. He showed them how much he loves them and also the people of the country.
When Sourav was the captain, his Bengal team-mate Deep Dasgupta was dropped from the squad and MS Dhoni was given a chance. He believed in performance and nothing else and we got someone like Dhoni who went on to become the Captain of the team & eventually won us two world cups.
Sourav Ganguly never compromised in anything in his whole career, may be for which he was involved in so many controversies.
Later on we saw the rise of another Bowler Irfan Pathan whom the world compared with the great Wasim Akram. “Dada is someone who has provided all the young players motivation to do well” Irfan said in an interview.
Friends, it was very unfortunate for all of us that he was forced to retire by some consequences but even while waving good-bye he proved his caliber.
His comebacks, his fighting spirit teaches us a lot and acts as a motivational force for us.
There are many TV Shows who fools around with Dada’s name, some ex-cricketers write foolish stuffs about him in their books. It is very much proved by their efforts the popularity of Dada which they want to cash upon. But being a Fan of Dada it hurts me and I am sure it hurts many others too.
Lastly, to conclude I would just say something-“Keep walking Mr. Ganguly, we will always be with you”.
