Sourav Ganguly was my Inspiration: Manoj Tiwari
Manoj Tiwary said that former India captain Sourav Ganguly was his inspiration. “I have learnt a lot from Dada. He was my inspiration and he has been motivating me whenever I got to meet him,” said Tiwary said when asked about who he would like to thank after getting the chance to play for India against the West Indies!
Brett Lee’s toe crushing yorker that rattled Manoj Tiwary’s stumps after facing 16 balls and scoring just two at the Brisbane ODI in 2007-08 Commonwealth Bank Series has been haunting the Bengal batsman ever since.
But the ghost of the Australian experience have been somewhat laid to rest after he was recently picked again for the India squad for the forthcoming tour of West Indies.
On the basis of his consistent performances at the domestic level and IPL, the 25-year-old has clawed his way back into the national team and is raring to make most of opportunity given by the selectors.
The youngster, who has been picked for the one day side in place of Yuvraj Singh, said he won’t let this opportunity slip from his hands.
“That is a past,” said Tiwary about the Lee’s yorker. “Sometimes it used to disturb me. It was there at the back of my mind, I didn’t get another opportunity after that and it is all about luck. However, I never let that affect me whenever I was in the field,” he told DNA.
“It is great to be back and I thank the selectors for reposing their faith in me,” he added.
The stylish batsman has a huge task in West Indies considering the kind of talent around. One bad game can hamper his chances.
“I don’t see it that way. I know it is difficult to cement my place in the side. However, my aim is to perform in whatever opportunities I get. West Indies tour is my current focus and my aim will be to give my 100 per cent,” he added.
Tiwary’s ultra-aggressive IPL avatar has surprised everyone. His performances and big-hitting for KKR has bracketed him in the league of big-hitters.
“I have always batted in this manner. In the first IPL while playing for Delhi Daredevils, I batted down the order and hardly got to face very few deliveries. Shifting to KKR has helped and gave me enough exposure. Hence, that’s why you can see me bat like that.”
Tiwary said he enjoyed his stint at KKR, where his teammate is Lee.
“I never discussed that ball with him. But I have enjoyed playing with him,” he added.
